Sermon: 8/16/26- Thursday's Devotional

Seeing Through the Caramel
Reading: 2 Corinthians 11:13-15 -- The apostle Paul warns that deception rarely announces itself as deception; it disguises itself as something appealing and even righteous.

The enemy's oldest strategy is presentation. He does not typically offer us something that looks obviously destructive. He offers us something that looks harmless, fun, freeing, or even good. Like caramel covering a rotten apple, if all we see is the caramel, we will easily bite into the rotten apple beneath. Joshua called Israel to look beneath the surface of the culture around them. Paul called the early church to the same vigilance. We are called to it as well. The Holy Spirit is not silent. When warning bells sound in your conscience, do not reach for an excuse. Reach for discernment.

Reflection Question: Is there something in your life that you have been defending with excuses rather than examining with honesty?

Practical Application: The next time you feel the need to justify a habit, entertainment choice, or cultural participation to yourself or others, pause and ask God what that defensiveness might be telling you.
