When God Gives You What You Ask For
Reading: 1 Samuel 8:22 -- God instructs Samuel to listen to the people and give them a king.

God's response to Israel's demand is one of the most sobering moments in all of Scripture. He does not argue. He does not force a different outcome. He simply says to give them what they want. This is not indifference on God's part -- it is a form of love that allows us to experience the consequences of our own choices so that we might learn what we could not learn any other way. Sometimes the most instructive thing God does is step back and let us have the Maserati, knowing full well what the cost of ownership will be.

Reflection Question: Can you recall a time when you got exactly what you wanted, only to discover it was not what you needed?

Practical Application: Spend time in prayer today surrendering a specific desire or goal to God, asking Him to align your wants with His wisdom rather than your own.
