Turning Toward God in Bitterness
Reading: Ruth 1:19-22; Job 2:9-10

Naomi arrived in Bethlehem and asked to be called Mara, meaning bitter. She placed her grief squarely before God and made no attempt to hide it. Yet in the very same breath, she returned to Israel because she had heard that God was providing for His people there. She blamed God and trusted God at the same time. This is not contradiction. This is honest faith. Like Job, who refused to curse God despite his suffering, Naomi chose to move toward God rather than away from Him. Bitterness brought to God's feet is still an act of faith.

Reflection: Are you carrying bitterness or grief that you have been afraid to bring honestly before God? What would it look like to bring it to Him today?
