Sermon: 10/25/26- Wednesday's Devotional

Looking for the Wrong Thing
Reading: 1 Samuel 9:2 and 1 Samuel 10:23-24 -- Saul is described as the most handsome man in Israel, standing a head taller than everyone else, and the people celebrate him.

Saul looked exactly like what the people imagined a king should look like. He was impressive by every outward measure. The problem was never his appearance -- the problem was what the people were using as their criteria for choosing a leader. They were shopping for a sportscar when God had been offering them something far more valuable: His own presence and guidance. What we are looking for determines what we will find. When our search is driven by appearance, status, or the desire to impress others, we will consistently overlook the things that matter most and settle for something that looks good but costs far more than we expected.

Reflection Question: What criteria are you currently using to evaluate the important decisions in your life -- outward appearances and cultural expectations, or godly wisdom and character?

Practical Application: Before making your next significant decision, write down the factors driving your choice and honestly evaluate which of those factors reflect God's priorities and which reflect the world's.
