Sermon: 1/18/26- Wednesday's Devotional

The Blame Game
Reading: Genesis 3:8-13; Genesis 4:8-16

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. When confronted, Adam blamed Eve and ultimately God. Eve blamed the serpent. Cain, following this pattern, blamed Abel for his own inferior offering rather than taking accountability. This refusal to own our choices is humanity's oldest defense mechanism. We blame our upbringing, circumstances, other people—anyone but ourselves. Yet spiritual growth begins with honest self-reflection. When God asks, "What have you done?" He's inviting confession, not excuses. Cain's response—anger at his brother rather than repentance before God—led to devastating consequences. Where are you deflecting responsibility instead of owning your actions? True freedom comes when we stop pointing fingers and start saying, "I was wrong. Help me change." Take time today to confess without excuses.
